Olive Oil is the primary oil we use in all our soaps for good reason. It has been used in soap for thousands of years, with evidence of it being used in ancient Egypt and the Mediterranean region. Due to olive oil's natural moisturizing properties and high content of antioxidants, olive oil-based soaps are believed to reduce skin inflammation, hydrate the skin, and keep it looking youthful.

Coconut oil is an excellent addition to any soap, as it creates a bubbly lather with superior cleansing power due to its high lauric acid content. Lauric acid is a naturally occurring fatty acid that acts as a powerful cleansing agent and has anti-bacterial properties.  At AlpacaSoaps, we have carefully crafted our soap formula to ensure the superior cleansing of coconut oil is well balanced by including a high percentage of gently cleansing olive oil.

Unrefined shea butter is pure luxury. We love it for its ability to boost skin's cellular energy and regeneration. Raw organic shea butter has a luxurious consistency and deep nutty aroma. It's hard not to fall head over heels when opening up the latest shipment from Ghana. But, all swooning aside, shea butter is a lovely ingredient for your skin because of its fatty acid profile, and its complex alchemy of unsaponifiable phytochemicals makes it unsurpassed for boosting your skin's cellular energy and regeneration.

Castor oil is a unique ingredient in soap; its high concentration of ricinoleic acid creates a stable lather of large bubbles. Castor oil boasts numerous health benefits, including antimicrobial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties, which make it a perfect solution for those with sensitive or irritated skin.

Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Aqua, Sodium Hydroxide, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter,  Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Parfum, Sodium Lactate, Titanium Dioxide, Mica, Iron Oxide, chromium oxide green

How We Make Our Soaps

Our Process

Our cold-processed soaps are crafted with a unique blend of olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter, and castor oil. We start by combining lye and water (or other liquids) into our oils. The mixture is then emulsified and poured into molds to solidify. To avoid the heat generated during saponification, we quick-chill and refrigerate our molds at AlpacaSoaps. This helps preserve the naturally-occurring beneficial elements found in oils, milks, extracts, and herbs that we use.  Once removed from the molds, our fresh soap is left to cure for one to two months; during this time, excess water evaporates, glycerin is created, and the pH gradually adjusts until it’s ideal for the skin. Cured soaps have a much milder smell, better lathering properties, and more moisturizing effects than uncured soaps!

Wait...What, You Use Lye?!

Making soap involves a chemical reaction known as saponification. This process occurs when an alkali, such as potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide (lye), reacts with fat (such as animal fat or vegetable oils and butters) to form a salt and glycerin. The salt created is what gives the soap its cleansing properties. During the saponification reaction, three main components are produced: soap molecules, glycerin, and water. There is no lye left in the soap after this reaction is complete. The soap molecules bind together and create a thick lather when mixed with water. The glycerin works to condition the skin and provides moisture.

Fragrance Notes

The tangy, refreshing, energizing burst of lime with its spicy undertones, such as black pepper, bergamot, and ginger, blends beautifully with the creamy, nutty, sweet, and exotic aroma of coconut with its nuances of vanilla and caramel. This fragrance invites us to join it on a sunny beach in paradise.

Candy Cane Bar Soap

I purchased this soap as a gift for my niece but I did previously try a sample. The soap smells so good especially in a steamy shower! Let me tell you though - the presentation! It was created and cut so beautifully and wrapped so nicely that all I had to do was put it in her present. Thank you!

Thank you Kelly. We loved creating the Candy Cane soap bar. So glad you enjoyed our presentation!
